A-2 Weekly Recap
This week in A-2 was a great week. We had a fire drill, a Jewish New Year celebration, Summer in a Bag and interview progress continued, and Book Report #1 assigned.
2 girls from A-2 brought in apples and honey, a traditional Jewish treat, and they passed it around. The sweet honey mixed with the apples tasted to many people like candy, the way the Jews think of it. They also brought in bread that the Jews eat as part of the celebration.
A-2 continued to work on their interview, where the class learned very interesting facts about other people, such as what they like, where they want to be when they grow up, and more very interesting facts. After the interviews are completed, A-2 will have a party, where we read the mystery interviews and have treats.
Summer in a bag was continued, where the memories, souvenirs and photos were all stored in one tiny bag. People visited places such as Washington, Louisiana, Alaska, Georgia, Utah, Colorado, Italy, France, Wisconsin, Illinois, Los Angeles and many more places.
The presentations have shown the rest of the class exactly what everyone did over the summer, what the places they visited were like and what they had fun with over the summer. Everyone put lots of hard work into the project, and no one missed a required element.
However, the most important activity of the whole week was our travel brochure. A-2 will show you unique countries such as Puerto Rico, Chile, New Zealand, Italy, Ireland, Iceland, Costa Rica, Zimbabwe and many more. Now, we get some exclusive close-ups from some students in A-2.
Coleman O’Brien takes you to Ireland to take you back to where some of his ancestors lived in his book report. Coleman is Irish, and he is excited for his report. Kyle Hetzel shares the same enthusiasm for Sweden, which is a very beautiful country, in Kyle’s words.
Anton Lee gives you a ticket to Iceland, where volcanoes have been seen. Anton says the country is very interesting, and he is very excited for the book report. Avinash Patel gives you a trip to Zimbabwe, where his mom was born, and where their are many interesting things that Avinash thinks he doesn’t know.
A great year in A-2 so far continues!

At Friday, I was really excited. And also I was amazed that you can build a house with no electricity.

Today, November,21st, We tried some experiments.
First, we covered holes with clay and tape, then we placed thermometer into the hole on the roof.
second, we placed our house in a shade and waited for about 2minutes. Then, we recorded the outcome. It was 21 degrees celsius.
Third, we placed our house in the sunlight. Again, we waited for about 2 minutes and recorded the outcome.
It was 32 degrees celsius.
We discussed about the outcome and tried other cool experiments.
Next, we let the power house to cool and then, we placed it in the Sun for half an hour.
While we were waiting,
We placed a big wood facing toward the sun. And then, we gave a little distance, and faced a magnifying glass.
The outcome was, the sunlight hit the surface of the magnifying glass and the magnifying glass hit the surface of the wood. But, when magnifying glass hit the surface of the wood, it concentrated on one spot.
For the next experiment, we taped the thermometer on the wood, and did the same thing over again. But instead of putting the magnifying glass wherever we want, we shined it directly through the bottom of thermometer.
The temperature rised really fast. After waiting it to slow down, we compaired how much the temperature rised.
From 20 degrees celsius to 60 degrees clesius was a huge difference.
After two experiments, we went back to power house.
It was about 43 degrees celsius.
That’s what we did for this Friday. It was really amazing, especially the magnifying glass and thermomemeter.
We had lots af fun.

In Teal’s group, which I am in, we are almost done with the Solar Oven. Today, we tried to roast marsh mellows, but the sun wasn’t as strong today as last friday. Last Friday, our solar oven was great! The oven went up to 113 C! We found the focal point and we were able to use it to record the heat that was collecting in the Oven.
As with all group work, we had a difficult start. We didn’t know how to divide the jobs. But, Elise thought of making a chart of jobs to do. Teal thought it was a good idea so we will try it this coming friday. This has helped us work together better. Our next experiment is magnetism.

One of my favorite experiment was when we did the solar train car.
Everybody was interested in this subject that we worked quickly.
Though it was a lot of work. The wires kept falling so we need to cut the wires and start all over again.
1.Fold the car figure and glue some of it.
2.Fold the figure where motor will be in.
3.Place the little motor box into the car figure.
4.Take out the wheel and stick it in to the stick. Two of them.
5.Place the solar penal on top of the car and tape it.
6.Put the motor inside the motor box.
7.Connect two wires to the solar penal to the motor.
8.Place the car in the sun for about 30seconds, and it will move slowly and gets little more faster.
I think working together to make this experiment doulbed the fun!
We all enjoyed this moment working hard, and on the other hand, talking about stuffs.
