Dr. Roy and Science
Dr. Roy is our visiting scientist for A-2. Dr. Roy and I have worked together for several years after being paired up through the Astronomical Society of the Pacific. This organization was interviewing teachers who were interested in promoting Science education by pairing teachers and scientist together to work in the classroom as a team. I feel very fortunate to have been “paired” with Dr. Roy, and for the last 6 years, we have continued to work together as a team. Together, we have developed a strong and exciting Science program that enchances the Science Standards adopted by PAUSD.
This next year, Dr. Roy and I have been working on the new Palo Alto 5th grade science unit titled, “The Water Planet”. This unit investigates the Solar System, Solar Energy and Weather. This unit is in addition to the Chemistry and The Human Body study we will present during the year. The district has also integrated a new Science book as part of the curriculum. It is very visual with wonderful diagrams and pictures. I have enjoyed reading it and I think you child will as well. You will have a chance to look over the book during Back To School night on August 31st.
