About Mrs. Manou-

Just a little information about me!!  I have been teaching for 13 years and I am still amazed that I get paid for this job.  I have so much fun and the students make me laugh everyday!  I live with my husband and my 2 boys, Nicholas and ALexander, in Menlo Park.  I am a California Native, born and educated in the Golden State.  I grew up in the farming community of the Central Valley.  Yes, we had cows and horses, but only for fun.

I have many hobbies, but have had to narrow it down since my kids are young.  I enjoy running, swimming, reading and, of course, traveling on adventure trips.  My current plans are to hike through coastal Turkey in June.  My boys and I garden and take long walks in our neighborhood that ultimately end up at Peet’s coffee for a refresher.

I feel very fortunate to live in the bay area and to teach with some of the most amazing students and families.

April 2010: My trip to Peru! Hiking the Inca Trail

I must say that my experience on the Inca trail was unforgettable.  Not only was it the most challenging trek of my life (so far!), but the time with the Peruvian people and my group members made the week one of my favorites adventures to date.  The scenery of the Andes was breathtaking.  During the week, I had the opportunity to visit Lima, Cusco, and hike in the varied ecsosystems of the Inca Trail.  I was also greatly impacted by the smiles and warmth of the local Peruvians.  Finally,  I still smile when I recall the conversation and laughter shared by my new friends.  Yes, I did not know most of the group, but after an experience such as this, we were all very good friends by the end.  I have included some of my favorite pictures.  One pictures my at the top of Dead Woman’s Pass- a9+ hour trek from an elevation of 2400 ft to 14000 ft up!  This hike stretched me physically, but I soon found out that with good conversation and lots of laughter- you can soon forget the struggle of the uphill battle!

Beautiful Smiles!

Let the hike begin!

Dead Woman's Pass- a long hike from 2400 ft to 14000ft, but worth the battle uphill!

Views at the top of Dead Woman's Pass- Pass 1 of 3.....

After many hours of hiking and 2 nights of camping on the trail-finally, the Sun Gate (can you see Machu Picchu in the background?)

The group! Our hiking group consisted of 13 hikers,** 3 guides, **18 porters and **1 head cook--**every single one of them AMAZING!

"It's a long way to Machu Picchu"......a song we sang on the trail.

Wow! What an incredible feat to have accomplished. Hats off to you for doing this. I would probably have given up just by looking at the Peak. Thank you for sharing your trip. You are a wonderful teacher and Charlie enjoys your class so much.
